Projects & investments happening, and innovations testing

In an environment where final investment decisions and off-takers for hydrogen seem hard to come by, let’s start with a couple of promising pieces of news.

In India, AM Green Ammonia has reached FID “on its first million-ton green ammonia project located in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh”.

In fact, the target capacity of the project is “5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030” (requiring about 1 MTPA of green hydrogen). It will be “located at an existing urea plant”, which the company plans to convert for green ammonia, with first production “in the second half of 2026”.

Power will come via “1300 MW of round-the-clock carbon-free power”, a result of “4500 MW solar & wind hybrid capacity in combination with 950 MW of PSP (pumped storage plant)”. AM Green Ammonia already have a “25-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC, covering half of the above”.

The combination of power should “allow for up to 90% utilisation of electrolysers”. These are likely to come from John Cockerill and be of the “reliable, state of the art pressurized alkaline” sort.
