Assessing the Capability of the Hydrogen Derivatives Market for Commercial Operations

With the global hydrogen market emerging out of its infancy, it will become essential to develop viable transportation and distribution methods at affordable costs, particularly when it comes to transporting hydrogen over long distances. This opens up a new market for hydrogen carriers or derivatives, and their role in providing an alternative to more costly and less energy efficient hydrogen transportation alternatives, such as pipelines and cryogenic storage. Hydrogen derivatives however are not yet ready for mass market deployment, and still need to be evaluated and developed across a range of use cases. This event will delve into the challenges and opportunities that are present in the hydrogen derivatives space, as well as evaluate the suitable applications across a myriad of sectors.

On a separate note, there are a number of use cases already for hydrogen derivatives in industrial applications, that still require decarbonising. Ammonia is commonly used in fertiliser as well as other chemical-heavy industries. Likewise, methanol has been used across the chemical space for decades. Both ammonia and methanol are considered to be propulsion fuels of the future, with Southwest China's Guizhou province setting a goal of launching 10,000 methanol-powered vehicles back in 2019.

This event will highlight the opportunities hydrogen derivatives have within the hydrogen world as well as how we can decarbonise the wider supply chains by reducing the carbon intensity of production.

Agenda:

  • Is the hydrogen derivatives market ready for commercial use?

  • How can the production and transportation of hydrogen carriers be scaled up to support wide-spread industrial decarbonisation?

  • What role will hydrogen derivatives play and which carrier will be the most effective in the energy transition?
