Webinar: Powering Latin America: Exploring the Trials and Tribulations of Creating a Leading Hydrogen Market

Time zones:

13:00 - 14:00 Chile Standard Time

17:00 -18:00 British Summer Time

18:00 - 19:00 Central European Summer Time

Due to a wide array of natural resources, Latin America is positioned to be one of the leading exporters of clean hydrogen by the end of this decade. In Brazil, companies such as Unigel are planning to develop a plant capable of producing 10,000 tons a year. Many Latin American countries are developing the capability to export large sums of clean hydrogen to foreign markets. However, in countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, there is strong desire to consume significant amounts of clean hydrogen as they currently consume around 40% of the region’s hydrogen in their oil refining processes.

Chile, Colombia and Brazil are the most advanced Latin American nations in terms of hydrogen market development - followed closely by Argentina and Uruguay. These countries foster the most favourable policy environments and abundant renewable resources to attract investment for clean hydrogen from external markets. Chile leads the regional market in terms of hydrogen preparedness, with policy incentives and a number of projects underway.

However, there is still a long way to go until Latin America can solidify its place as a leading hydrogen hub. There are many obstacles to overcome and discussions to be had to ensure that the continent can compete with markets in Asia, North America, Europe, and Africa. World Hydrogen Latin America will highlight not only the opportunities but debate ways to overcome the challenges that are restricting the development of projects.

Ahead of our World Hydrogen Latin America conference this December (12-14) in Santiago, we are delighted to explore this topic further with a pre-conference webinar that will give some insight into the topics to be discussed on the day, as well as share some insight into some of the region’s most exciting hydrogen hubs.

Topics to be covered:

  • What are the main barriers to developing a successful regional hydrogen market?

  • Examining opportunities that are currently present in the Latin American hydrogen industry?

  • How can external stakeholders help to grow the market over the coming decade?

  • Exploring how Latin America can become more accessible to external investors and stakeholders
